Color of Love BlogHop

index Ah the trouble with having 3, 4, 5, nevermind.

I have three main writing muses and with each one, they like to tell stories in a different way. With BLMorticia, she likes swearing, lots of sex, and snark. Rawiya likes drama free, contemporary, with lots of emotion, and Michael, well, this muse likes all of that, but he’s a fan of torturing the characters until they say no mas!

*laughs*

In Michael’s books, he tests the characters willpower, their stamina, and maybe, just maybe after he’s done everything he possibly could to them, they might get an HEA.

Michael’s first release with Pride Publishing will be On the Run, the first in the PROTEKT series. Here, the characters are driven to one another by fear and attraction as well as the desire to live on the edge. Mike and I wanted Aiden and Devlin to go through several problems before getting what they wanted. In all honesty, we wanted more, but, after long bouts of fighting with them, we allowed them to get together

So, what inspired me? Months ago, I watched 60 Minutes and being a baseball fan, one story in particular caught my eye. It was a report on performance enhancing drugs and one of the developers or distributors of them, Anthony Bosch. In the story, Bosch claims to have injected Yankee’s star Alex Rodriguez with the drugs. He spoke about being paid high sums of money and being threatened if he dared to come forward with the truth.

As I continued to listen, a story started to form. What if, I write a story based on that current event and turn it into a love story? I discussed things with my husband, took notes from the interview, did more research, and voila! On the Run was born.

After months of haggling with my own anxieties, I subbed it to Pride Publishing and was offered a contract for the book. In subsequent emails, editor and I talked about writing a series. I’d written a story called Closely Guarded and never subbed, but it seemed to fit the theme of good guys and girls, doing the right thing by their rules. Aiden and Devlin fit this group, so I decided to make all the books part of a collection of novels called PROTEKT.

The books will be standalones, only connected with the main character of the next book, being introduced in the previous story. And it’s brief, nothing major happening until they get their own story. For now, there are three books planned for PROTEKT, with a possibility of a fourth as well as a spin off, but everything I do depends on the muses so we’ll see what happens next.

Michael Mandrake - On The Run Cover

On the Run is the first book in the PROTEKT series!

Aiden Moriarty is a Florida ‘herbalist’ who developed a performance enhancing drug many athletes have used. One of them is baseball star Ivan Salerno, who was caught using the drugs and is now on the brink of getting suspended. Because of Ivan’s connections with a rogue mob boss, Aiden is taken into a witness protection program, working along with baseball higher ups until he testifies.

The mob boss, Augustine Ora, has hired former British military officer and his best hitman, Devlin ‘Brit’ Crawford, to do the job. Ora has instructed Devlin to go to Miami, kidnap Aiden and take him to the local airport to be transported to Havana ,Cuba, to be executed by Ora’s top officers.

However, when Devlin receives the email, the pictures of the blue-eyed felon catch his eye and he is moved to go in a different direction. Instead of delivering Aiden to the airport, he has thoughts of taking him away and saving him from Ora’s wrath.

This move puts him, Aiden, as well as his assistant Miranda Ashley in huge danger. Will Devlin keep Aiden safe despite the odds or will he fail, causing Ora and his men come after him?

  1. Thanks for joining the Color of Love Blog Hop. What do you mean his characters might get a HEA? Michael sounds like he liked to torture his readers as well as his characters.

    • lol my muse does to torture characters. I always follow the story and or the characters. One particlaular story I wrote, the MC’s did not end up together HEA. Sometimes its only an HFN

  2. I enjoy seeing arrogant heroes suffer a little before getting their HEA, but Michael is brutal. “might get an HEA”? tsk tsk tsk
On the Run sounds interesting. I like the fact that it was inspired by current events.
Thanks for being part of the hop

  3. So…tortured heroes are your forte? Heh. At least most of them get to enjoy HEA somewhere down the road.

Pretty interesting origins story re On the Run. Looks like quite a suspenseful read, too. Nice work on selling the book and expanding the idea into a series. I hope it’s met with great success and your muses cooperate. 😀
